Artist Lita Cabellut: Beauty, violence and a double-edged sword

To lift a phrase from Opera Gallery, the concept of beauty is a burdened one. Something to be both feared and sought, it is a double-edged sword, a non-sequitur and an instrument of seduction and inaccessibility. And often, wherever beauty goes, violence isn’t far behind.

I’m consistently impressed by the enticing displays at Opera Gallery, where beauty is always at the fore. From 13th-31st October, the team presents Impulse, the newest series by artist Lita Cabellut, which will be exhibited in conjunction with Frieze Art Fair 2015. Exploring the beauty/violence dichotomies, the show promises to examine the clash between society’s banishment and expectation of the beautiful.

I’m disappointed I won’t be around to see this show in the flesh (well, not that disappointed; I’ll be sunning myself in Bali!), but I just had to share this imagery because, for lack of a better word, damn.
